A Premium Dining Experience at Christchurch Airport
Portal Bar & Eatery is the latest addition to Christchurch Airport’s vibrant hospitality scene, offering travellers a welcoming space to relax, dine, and enjoy a premium selection of food and beverages before their journey. Whether starting the day with a hearty breakfast, indulging in classic Kiwi favourites like succulent steaks and crispy fish & chips, or unwinding with a refreshing beer, Portal Bar delivers an elevated airport dining experience in the heart of the terminal.
Comprehensive Fitout & Custom Design
Our team delivered a full-scale bar and kitchen fitout, ensuring that every aspect of the project met the highest standards of functionality and aesthetics. The project included detailed architectural plans, setting out plans, service layouts, elevation drawings, and heat-proof lining details. Additional elements such as vinyl coving, cool room specifications, and canopy installations were implemented. To optimize kitchen operations, precise equipment schedules and product specifications were carefully selected. The final design was brought to life with 3D visuals, allowing for a comprehensive view of the space before execution.
This project was made possible through the expertise of our dedicated teams. Project Mechanical provided professional canopies, expert design advice, and installation. Project Stainless delivered high-quality stainless-steel solutions, including benches, sinks, hoods, canopies, wall linings, and shelving, while also offering site-specific design services, custom stainless-steel manufacturing, and professional installation. Meanwhile, Project Design specialises in architectural detailing, joinery, and product design, ensuring that every element is aligned with both functionality and aesthetics.

To support high-performance food and beverage service, Portal Bar’s kitchen and bar were equipped with industry-leading products. Simply Stainless work benches and washer rack stands to streamline dish handling, while Eurochill and Skope undercounter chillers provide optimal refrigeration. Festive Display Cabinets showcase fresh food selections and Pro.Equip Bar blenders ensure expertly made beverages. Scotsman ice machines maintain a steady supply of fresh ice, while Starline undercounter dishwashers deliver quick and effective glass & dish cleaning, and Merrychef speed ovens provide fast, high-quality meal preparation.
A highlight of the fitout is the pizza station, which includes a custom marble top workbench, a Skope Reflex three-door GN-compatible pizza prep fridge, and the Moretti Forni Neapolis pizza oven with a leavening prover, creating the perfect setup for authentic, high-quality pizzas.
