Hukanui Primary School Students at Southern Hospitality

Southern Hospitality Hamilton had the pleasure of hosting 14 of the year 5 & 6 cookery students from Hukanui Primary School and the lads from PAUA architects to design and work on their schools new food technology room.

The object was to showcase the support role we play in helping to build a clients business dream and to enlighten the kids with stories of wisdom from the vibrant industry we are so passionate about in hope that the industry will continue to thrive as we know it. Hospitality is bigger than just chefs & waiters, its about the art of these people coming together to create a memorable and lasting experience.

Southern Hospitality Training

From the show of hands we quickly established that the entirety of the group had had a dining encounter at some stage or another and that they could all recall the feeling the had come away with. The children were broken into 3 groups and completed a round robin of activities with some of Southern Hospitality Hamilton’s own as well as the team from PAUA architects:

  1. A VR session looking at their new food tech room and mapping out the new workstations
  2. A baking session with Ian and Mark learning to make cookies, a quiche and about the art of Sous Vide
  3. A piping & decorating session with Kate where they designed their own cupcakes

It was a hive of activity, the kids thrived on the learning experience, proving their knowledge in the end of lesson quiz. Plenty of laughter and tasty food is always a sign of success, overall a great learning experience outside the classroom!
