National Seconday School Culinary Challenge

Southern Hospitality is proud to once again sponsor the National Secondary School Competition!

This competition is an excellent opportunity to grow and showcase the skills of potential chefs across the country, and for these young people to be mentored and judged by local industry chefs. Teams of two year 12 or 13 competitors will compete in a live regional kitchen cook-off to produce four covers of entrée and main meals in just 90 minutes.

2014 NSSCC winners

Students will be scored across a number of areas including food preparation, hygiene, presentation, taste and use of New Zealand produced vegetables and chicken. Each winner will then go on to represent their region at the National Final.

The regional timetable is as follows:

1.    Wellington – Weltec – 16th May

2.    Hawkes Bay – EIT – 24th May

3.    Southern/Southland – SIT – 6th June

4.    Taranaki/Wanganui – WITT – 8th June

5.    Northland – Northtec – 14th June

6.    Tasman – NMIT – 26th June

7.    Auckland South/East – MIT – 1st July

8.    Waikato/BOP – Wintec – 3rd July

9.    Auckland North/Central/West – AUT – 10th July

10.  Canterbury - TBC
