Being a baker at heart and having a lifelong career in the hospitality industry, Toni approached us early 2018 with the intention of setting up her new café on the main street of Te Awamutu. The project quickly escalated and within months, we are well and truly on board with a full building renovation & a new kitchen fit out.

Combined with creative flair, eccentric taste, a huge amount of patience and a drive like no other Toni’s dream “Baked On Alexandra” was born.

Not only does this café have gorgeous décor and a casual, homely vibe, they also have Nitro coffee, sparkling teas & kombucha on tap as well as the first custom sparkling water font in NZ; with environmentally friendly incentives and fresh, tasty food & coffee, there’s something for everyone, in fact you’re spoilt for choice.



We setup the kitchen with a line up from Waldorf, fitted out with a griddle, a 6 burner range, a deep fryer and a few infill benches. We also put in a Turbofan Combi & Project Mechanical installed a Lo-Flo extraction hood above the cookline.

You can also see Eurochill Summit upright single and double door refrigerators and freezers at the right end of the kitchen. As the kitchen is visible from the counter, Toni wanted a point of difference behind the cookline so Project Stainless put in custom patterned stainless steel wall linings to prevent heat from getting to the walls.



A Turbofan E33 convection oven is housed in the designated baking area to ensure flow and functionality throughout the kitchen.

The wash area was setup with a Fisher pre rinse, custom stainless steel inlet and outlet benches by Project Stainless and the latest release from Starline - the M2C passthrough dishwasher which does not require an extraction canopy and will save you an excess of $1000 a year in power – find out why here.

In the front of house, we put in a Festive refrigerated & ambient food display cabinets to display all the daily baked goods.

To give their customers more than just tap water, we installed a Brita Vivreau Under Bench Dispenser with customised wooden handles and a copper font to carry through on the theme throughout the cafe.

We also put in a Hamilton Beach 3 Head Milkshake Mixer and a Blendtech Blender to make all their delicious milkshakes and smoothies.

The café was finished with Simply Stainless shelves, trolleys and under counter fridges from Eurochill, a Mactrap Grease box, a range of glassware from Pasabache and Libbey, a variety of takeaway containers, napkins and other disposables.
